오늘은 Sydney Carnival 기간의 마지막날인 Sydney Cup이 열리는 날이다.
Melbourne Cup 한개경주와 Sydney Cup을 비교해볼때 큰 차이가 있지만 Sydney Carnival은 49개의 Group경주를 열고 1달이 넘는 기간동안 이루어진다는 점에서 전체 규모로 따지면 Melbourne Cup Carnival보다는 양적으로 크다.

More Joyous에 대한 심의장면
2경주에서는 우리나라의 방심패 상황이 나와 심의가 진행되었다.
5위로 도착한 H.Bowman이 결승선 통과전에 추진동작을 한템포 멈춘 것에 대해 계속 추진을 했더라면 좀 더 나은 결과가 나올 수 있다라는 판단하에 제재를 결정하였고 과태금 300달러가 부과되었다. 문의결과 1,2위 방심패 경우에는 6주에서 2개월의 기승정지, 2,3위의 경우에는 1개월의 기승정지 처분을 하고 승식과 관계없는 3위 미만의 방심패의 경우에는 과태금 처분을 하고 있었다.
H Bowman, rider of Diamond Earth was fined $300 under AR137(b) for failing to ride his mount out right to the line. In assessing penalty, the Stewards could not be satisfied that H Bowman’s action of stopping riding close to the line had cost the filly a higher placing.
7경주에서는 아주 보기힘든 심의가 진행되었다.
호주에서 가장 유명한 Gai Waterhouse와 More Joyous의 마주인 Mr. John Singleton이 경주전 나눈 이야기와 마주가 경주 후 언론에 얘기한 내용이 문제가 되어 심의가 열렸다. 마주인 Singleton은 경주전 자신이 아는 지인(은퇴기수)이 Gai Waterhouse의 아들이고 유명한 bookmaker인 Tom Waterhouse로부터 More Joyous가 마체에 문제가 있어 이번 경주에 승산이 없다는 정보를 들었다고 경주 후 언론 인터뷰에서 얘기를 하였다. More joyous는 3.5달러 배당율로 인기순위 2위였으나 7위도 도착하였다. Gai Waterhouse는 경주전 목요일 훈련 후 목부분에 열이 있어 수의사 2명에게 진단을 하고 예방차원에서 항생제를 투여했으며 이후 특별한 이상이 없어 경주에 출전시켰다고 하였다. 자신은 말에 대한 상태를 어느 누구에게도 말한 적이 없다고 하였다. 이 이야기는 Sydney Morning Herald에서 일면기사로 다루어질 정도로 현재 이슈가 되고 있다. Tom Waterhouse는 자신은 어떠한 말도 하지 않았으며 자신도 More Joyous가 져서 300,000달러를 손해본 상황이고 이에 대해 Singleton을 고소할 예정이라고 언론인터뷰에서 말하였다. 마주는 경주전 More Joyous가 경주에서 질 경우 자신의 말을 모두 뺄 것이라고 Gai Waterhouse와 언쟁을 하였고 일요일 자신의 말 7마리를 모두 빼버렸다. 이 심의는 이번주 금요일 오후에 다시 진행된다.
An inquiry was opened into the performance of More Joyous and that mare’s preparation leading into today’s race. N Rawiller stated that the mare travelled particularly well in the run and, mindful not to be again pocketed today, coming to the home turn he elected not to improve inside the heels of Rangirangdoo, but to ease out three wide. He added that initially More Joyous quickened, but then did not appear to stretch out fully in the straight and, as a result, he did not fully push his mount out over the final 150m. Trainer Mrs G Waterhouse stated that More Joyous had worked well over 1200m, ridden by track rider Mr Steve O’Halloran, on Thursday 25 April 2013, but that some heat in the neck area had been detected after the mare worked. She added that a blood was taken and an examination made by veterinarian Ms Leanne Begg and the mare was treated with an antibiotic as a precaution. Mrs Waterhouse further stated that More Joyous did light work on Friday and was subject to an examination by Dr J Peatfield, the veterinarian for Strawberry Hills Stud Pty Ltd this morning, in company with Mr D Grimley.
Acting on the advice of Dr Begg and Dr Peatfield, Mrs Waterhouse stated that she was of the view that More Joyous was fit to fulfil its engagement in today’s race. Mr John Singleton, proprietor of Strawberry Hills Stud Pty Ltd, and his racing manager, Mr D Grimley, were questioned relative to statements made by Mr Singleton in media interviews subsequent to the race and, in particular, regarding statements he attributed to licensed bookmaker Mr Tom Waterhouse relative to the winning chances of More Joyous. Stewards accompanied stable foreman Mr M Newnham to the Waterhouse stables and secured stable treatment records. The inquiry was adjourned and Mrs Waterhouse was advised that the Stewards intend to call Dr Leanne Begg, Dr John Peatfield, Mr Steve O’Halloran and stable foreman Mr David Meijer. Furthermore, the Stewards will examine all betting transactions, both on and off course, on the All Aged Stakes. It is the intention of the Stewards to request that Mr Tom Waterhouse attend at the resumption of the inquiry. A post-race veterinary examination of More Joyous did not reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken. The Stewards will also inquire into media reports of an altercation involving Mr J Singleton and licensed bookmaker Mr R Waterhouse subsequent to the Stewards’ inquiry.
