Prior to the declaration of correct weight the Stewards viewed the film relative to an incident at the start, where Caesar’s Princess slipped badly, became unbalanced and lost significant ground (4L). After interviewing the starter, Mr B Evans, rider J Cassidy and in the presence of trainer Mr C Waller, the Stewards found that there were no grounds to declare the mare a non-starter and correct weight was declared. J Cassidy stated that Caesar’s Princess slipped badly, initially in front and then behind and, therefore, felt awkward in its action behind. He added in the early stages he rode Caesar’s Princess along, as he was of the opinion that the mare may free up in its action. However, after travelling a short distance it became apparent that, in his opinion, Caesar’s Princess may have sustained an injury in the incident and for this reason he did not ride the mare vigorously throughout the race and in fact eased it down over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of Caesar’s Princess immediately after the race did not reveal any abnormalities. A further veterinary examination after Caesar’s Princess had cooled down did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr C Waller was advised that he would be required to provide a full veterinary certificate of fitness prior to Caesar’s Princess starting again.
